Lavender comes from a sunny island called Singapore in exotic Asia. She has always been the crafty sort, having her hands in a number of crafting hobbies like portrait sketching, cross stitching, teddy bears making and card making. Then she was given the chance to finally find her true handicraft passion and started making Lovely Angelic and Versatile jewelry: Jewelry of Lav.
Lavender is also passionate about one NYC neighborhood in particular: Soho. That’s were –she says- shops, people and atmosphere are the best you could find in the City.

::Why and when did you started Jewelry of Lav? In year 2006, I started a blog at Beads of Lav to showcase my handmade jewelry more as a hobby of a stay at home mom. Within 3 years, Beads of Lav grew and became popular with many from afar and near. In year 2009, a new site, Jewelry of Lav was born to better reflect the handmade jewelry I create and to handle sales more effectively. Then, this year in 2010, Jewelry of Lav etsy shop was opened to showcase a slightly different range of handmade jewelry that is simpler yet romantic; elegant yet whimsical; and cute yet angelic and most importantly, to reach out to a wider world out there who would also appreciate my handmade jewelry.

::Where do you get your inspiration from? Jewelry of Lav is synonymous with Lovely, Angelic, Versatile handmade jewelry for fashionistas. Inspired by my children and their many fairytale storybooks, my works often reflects childhood innocence and fairytale like sweetness.
:: Who is your ideal buyer? My ideal buyer would be anyone who would appreciate my effort and creativity spent in making each piece of jewelry. He or she would cherish and take good care of my handmade jewelry such that they could be worn for many years to come and even be passed on to their children, like a heirloom.

:: What is your favorite NYC place? NYC is a lovely, vibrant and eclectic city, especially Soho. Soho is for sure one of my favorite places, known for its exquisite architecture and hip reputation as a haven for artists of all sorts. Plus it’s filled with varied boutiques for fashionable clothing and accessories such as Agnes B or Selima Optique. What I also like about that gorgeous neighborhood is also the ease with which you can make friends with the creative artists that live there.
:: Do you think New York can still be considered the place-to-be for young creatives? New York is such a happening place with its vibrant culture, multiracial communities and most importantly, its supportive environment for both budding and experienced creatives. So, I believe it would continue to draw many young creative people as well as many young- at-heart artists to it.

:: Where do you shop in NYC? There are so many fantastic shop places in NYC, like Bloomingdales at 1000 Third Avenue, the little boutiques in Soho –such as the ones that I have mentioned above- and basically anywhere in where you can get unique stuff, and especially so if the things they sell are handmade. FAO Schwartz is another place I love to visit for some unique toys for my little ones.
:: If I say Italy, you say…? I’ll say delizioso! I love Italian food, especially the different kinds of pasta that you have: agnolotti, cavatappi, conchiglie, vermicelli and all the varied savory sauces. There is a restaurant opposite my home which serves wonderful Italian food and my family simply loves going there for a sumptuous Italian meal during weekends.
