Today in New York: Austin Tinius

Austin Tinius‘s shop, Burger & Friends, is based in Dallas, Texas, right between the East and the West coast and loaded with NY based fans.

So, if you are looking for some fun and pop stuff and if you want to feel the vibes of New York in the 60s, check out Austin’s funky creations…

:: Why and when did you started Burger & Friends? I bought a cheap sewing machine from a walmart back in 2005 and started sewing together wallets. In 2006 a friend made a website for me featuring the custom wallets called “burger and friends”. The first design I did was a burger shake and fries pattern print. I got in touch with a few stores (one being kidrobot) and they started placing orders. I started the line for fun- seeing what I could make of it. I was in school at the time and was hoping to jump from school to supporting myself with this. It worked out for me.

:: Where do you get your inspiration from? 80′s sci-fi and old Heavy Metal magazines. Listening to saga & rush gets the creative juices flowing.

::Who is your ideal buyer? Comic book fans and fans of fast-food will enjoy the line. My ideal buyer is someone with money burning a hole in their pocket!

:: What is your favorite NY place? Greg Kadel studios, [which features recent editorial and fashion advertising photography from New York based fashion photographer, Greg Kadel.]

:: Do you think NY can still be considered the place-to-be for young creatives? If you’re motivated you can make it work wherever you’re located. But being in NY certainly wouldn’t hurt…

:: Where do you shop in NY? I don’t go shopping very often. I’ll buy american apparel blanks when I place wholesale orders, but I do that via web. As for New York,  The Levi’s outlet is certainly cool. And then its various thrift stores for the rest.

:: If I say Italy, you say…? Stefano Cardoselli, [a heavy metal graphic designer who works for Azurek Studios.]
