Amy Lumsden started redraven studios in her home studio in Pittsburgh in 2006 and since then she has been selling her creations in more than 40 retail stores.
:: Cosa ti ha ispirato ad iniziare redraven studios?
Risposta breve, il bisogno di creare. Sono quel tipo di persona che deve tenere le mani costantemente occupate nel fare qualcosa, e deve avere almeno tre progetti nello stesso momento. :: What inspired you to start redraven studios? Short answer, the need to create. I am the type of person who constantly has to keep my hands busy making things, and have at least three projects happening at once. I studied fine art, specifically ceramics and painting in college, and always loved working in clay. I began redraven studios in 2006, selling locally around Pittsburgh, and opened my Etsy shop in 2008. And just last month launched my new online shop!
:: Cosa influenza il tuo stile e i tuoi gioielli?
Innanzitutto sono influenzata dai tessuti e dai motivi vintage. C’è qualcosa dei delicati motivi floreali che mi attira, possono essere i tessuti, la porcellana o i tessili di casa; rappresentano un’era cui mi sento più legata rispetto alla mia. Quando creo i miei gioielli e scelgo le decalcomanie di ceramica, cerco motivi che mi influenzano in modo simile.
:: What influences your style and your jewelry? I am primarily influenced by vintage textiles and patterns. There is something about delicate floral patterns that I am drawn to, be it fabrics, china, or household textiles; they represent an era that I relate to more so than my own. When creating my jewelry and choosing ceramic decals, I search for patterns that influence me in similar ways.
:: Chi sono gli artisti o i creatori di gioielli che apprezzi maggiormente?
Apprezzo così tanti artisti che lavorano ancora oggi e artisti del passato che hanno preparato la strada soprattutto per le artiste. Le artiste di oggi potrebbero essere Brooke Nobel, una ceramista spettacolare. Adoro anche il lavoro in argento della creatrice di gioielli Anne Holman, e i motivi romantici dei vestiti di Sarah Seven e Sohomode.
:: Who are the artist and jewelers that you appreciate most? I appreciate so many artists both working today, and past artists that have paved the way for women artists specifically. Present artists would have to be Brooke Noble, an amazing ceramic artist. I also adore the metal work of jewelry artist Anne Holman, and the romantic dress designs of Sarah Seven and SohoMode.
:: Come ti sei stabilita inizialmente nel mercato di Pittsburgh?

:: How did you first establish yourself in the Pittsburgh market? I was lucky enough to have Pittsburgh’s most stylish boutique owner, Alissa Martin, believe in me. She is the owner of Pavement, a local neighborhood boutique. I began selling my work at Pavement and vending at local indie craft fairs, and things just sort of happened from there!

:: Who did you have in mind when you started redraven Studios? Honestly, I thought it would be something fun to do. I enjoyed making my jewelry for friends, selling at local craft fairs, and on Etsy. It wasn’t until summer of 2008 that I realized this could be my living. Once I decided that was what I wanted, I made it happen.
:: Se tu dovessi lasciare Pittsburgh, dove andresti e perché? Chicago! Amo tutto di Chicago. Città meravigliosa, gente meravigliosa, shopping fantastico, cibo incredibile, architettura incantevole, ci sono troppe cose meravigliose da elencarle tutte.
:: If you had to leave Pittsburgh, where would you go and why? Chicago! I love everything about Chicago. Great city, great people, amazing shopping, incredible food, lovely architecture, there are too many great features to list them all.

Pittsburgh has so many great things to see, but because we are talking about shopping and fashion, I would highly recommend shopping on Butler Street. Pavement and Wildcard are two of Pittsburgh’s best boutiques. I would then suggest you finish your day with delicious cocktail at Embury.
