Today in London: Thongbai Tatong

Thongbai Tatong lives in Ter Aar, in the Netherlands. Designing and making clothes  for her Thongbai Tatong line is her full-time job.

Through it, she creates fun ready-to-wear pieces, focusing  on colors and forms, bold prints and geometry, and using contrasts as her main source of inspiration.

She also runs a blog, with constant updates and – wait for it- a monthly giveaway, which I am sure you will check almost obsessively.

:: Why and when did you started Thongbai Tatong? I consider myself a rather expressive person. I once wanted to become a writer because I always have a story to tell. Then I wanted to be a painter but thought I could not paint for a living. When I really became serious with designing and making clothes I knew I had found my path. And finally, in May 2009, I established my company Thongbai Tatong as an outlet of my creativity. I love the freedom in my work: there I can be as creative and as expressive as I want.

::  What inspires your work? Bold prints, art deco, some minimalist paintings, the sun, flowers . Actually I am inspired by what I see, especially colors and forms.

::  Who is your ideal buyer? My ideal buyer is a woman of any age with a positive attitude, who thinks that fun is a necessity in life and does not mind being stared at because of what she is wearing.

:: What is your favorite place in London and why? Oxford street. Because it is a paradise where a good and comfortable pair of shoes is really necessary and highly recommended.

:: Beatles or Rolling stones? Beatles!

:: What’s your top three of movies taking place in London? Closer, both of the Bridget Jones movies, and About a boy.

:: If I say Italy, you say…? Rome. I love this city especially the buildings. It is one of the places where I have my camera full of photos of the architecture and only about 5% of them have me in it.
