Virginia Kraljevic debuted her creations at the uber loved and oh-so-DIY Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn. Renegade is the place to be for every indie artist and crafter, but Virginia is definitely one of those able to pop out from the crowd, since her creations have a unique and minimalistic appeal that makes them really special and one of a kind…

:: Why and when did you start Virginia Kraljevic? My line of prints and handicrafts debuted at the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn one year ago (in 2009).  After having my own media production company for a couple of years, I decided to shake things up and focus on what I really wanted to do most — design and make things by hand.

:: Where do you get your inspiration from? Inspiration is everywhere!  And I can’t turn it off.  It’s in a lovely scent, a beautiful setting, a laugh, a  smile, a sweet memory.  I’m naturally drawn to certain patterns, shapes, objects, and colors, and you’ll see a certain theme throughout my work.

:: Who is your ideal buyer? My ideal buyer really is anyone who admires my work for whatever reason that pleases them.  Sometimes my drawings make people giggle out loud, put smiles on their faces, or to simply satisfy the need to put something up on their wall.  I am constantly delighted that I can share my work with people across the globe.  It amazes me to no end.

:: What is your favorite NYC place? Right now I’m a bit obsessed with Governors Island.  I’m a part of the {NewNew} New York Etsy Street Team, and over 30 members/local artisans worked together to create The Treasure Chest, a pop-up shop full of handmade gifts for the home and person.  The island is stunning and is only a five minute free ride from downtown Manhattan.  Definitely a great place to visit if you have never been, and a perfect place to come back to if you already have!

:: Do you think New York can still be considered the place-to-be for young creatives? Absolutely.  I am so fortunate not only to be able to do what I love most, but be amongst so many creative individuals.  From design to performing arts, it’s all here.

:: Where do you shop in NYC? It depends… for visual treats: Anthropologie, Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman. For practical shopping: B&H Photo, Trader Joe’s.A shop full of handmade goodies I seriously recommend:The Better than Jam Handmade Co-op in Brooklyn

:: If I say Italy, you say…? CIAO! (at the top of my lungs!)  I’ve been to Italy a few times and simply adore it.  So very beautiful and the people and cafes are fantastic.
